The Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center is expanding its home-based primary care to provide a range of primary care services to veterans in Marion County.

“Home care is something that Tuscaloosa VA began nearly 20 years ago as a way to provide health care to veterans, who often have significant mobility issues, inside their homes,” said said Dr. Avi Nichani, the home-based primary care provider for VIRGINIA.

Primary home care services include visiting the home health care team, collecting lab tests, conducting the health care visit, and comprehensive case management.

Other services include social work, pharmacy, nutrition, psychology and physiotherapy.

VA physical therapists can provide in-home mobility assessments and order wheelchairs, canes, and walkers, and even assess mobility aids in the bathroom.

The expanded home-based primary care team can serve veterans in Hamilton and eastern Mississippi and up the Tennessee line.
