The Southern Ocean Medical Center Boosters Auxiliary donated $5,500 to SOMC earlier this year at a rally of supporters at Renault Winery, complete with wine tasting, charcuterie, raffles and prizes.

SOMC Boosters president Judy Brody presented the grant to Jim Young, president of the Gift Giving Foundation at the medical center.

“We are offering this donation on behalf of all of our volunteers and supporters,” Brody said. “Our community has grown so much in recent years that having modern facilities to meet their needs is essential.”

The Auxiliary has been around since the 1940s. It was established with the aim of building a full-service hospital to replace the base clinic that was in use at the time. She now raises funds to buy equipment that meets modern needs.

Recent upgrades to the SOMC include the linear accelerator, cancer treatment area, robotic surgery center, and new and improved operating rooms. The auxiliary continues to work with other fundraising groups to improve the medical center.

The Boosters also run the SOMC Gift Shop, stocked with handmade gifts for patients and shoppers, and other items visitors may need.

The next fundraising event will be the annual Booster Auxiliary “tea” on September 28 at the Surf City Yacht Club. This is a great opportunity to show your support for Boosters and the medical center that serves this community.
