CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System is deploying a new high water vehicle to help with flood emergencies.
Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital is located in a highly flood prone area, which a hospital spokesperson said presents challenges for patients and staff as they enter and exit the building.
The new tactical vehicle, which can traverse just over four feet of standing water, will be used to transport staff, patients and supplies in the event of a weather emergency. The vehicle can carry up to 25 passengers at a time, including a wheelchair.
“We are delighted to have this new high water vehicle in our VA to meet the needs of veterans and staff during flooding,” said Scott Isaacks, director and CEO of the Ralph H. Johnson VA health care system. “The demand for this vehicle has come from the need for reliable transportation when these weather events occur. We can now ensure that all the needs of Veterans, personnel and supplies are met quickly, safely and efficiently within our own organization. “
The Ralph H. Johnson VA health care system is one of only three VA hospitals in the country with a high water vehicle.
