Prime Minister Terrance Drew promises affordable medical care for children seeking treatment abroad

Saint Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has promised his newly sworn in government will help parents who need financial help to get necessary medical treatment abroad for their sick children.

During his cabinet swearing-in ceremony at Warner Park Cricket Stadium, Prime Minister Drew assigned different portfolios to elected officials from the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labor Party. He expressed immense grief after seeing children suffer illnesses and even die due to their parents’ inability to pay for medical treatment.

Through his social media, he said: “Dear fellow citizens and residents, you have entrusted me with the leadership of the government. I, in turn, have confidence in my team. Their selection was not a popularity contest, but rather I ensured that each ministry and each statutory society had competent, empathetic, respectful, compassionate, responsible and energetic ministers.

Prime Minister Drew added that during his election campaign he often spoke about advanced and affordable medical facilities and care for children whose parents are unable to afford medical bills. Her heart aches for the parents who have lost their little ones, especially those who have recently passed away.

“As a father and a doctor, I cannot bear to see parents and children suffering in this way. Therefore, your government will ensure that it provides ALL necessary financial assistance to any child who needs to seek special medical care abroad! ” he added.

He also promised that his cabinet would always work for the betterment of Saint Kitts and Nevis and its people. Prime Minister Drew added: “I believe we have such ministers. You have heard the names of the cabinet members and their portfolios. I am grateful to them for accepting the portfolios I would have assigned.

He added that they had accepted the call to service. Before God and before you the people, in yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony, they took their oath.

Now is the time to get to work delivering results against the agreed performance targets.
