Mundelein man charged after bringing gun to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, police say

Juan L. Avila, 24, of Mundelein.

A Mundelein man was arrested at Advocate Condell Medical Center after police said he brought a gun to the hospital and refused to leave.

Juan L. Avila, 24, of the 800 block of Walnut Street in Mundelein, was charged with two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

The Libertyville Police Department responded last Sunday around 7:10 p.m. at Advocate Condell Medical Center, 801 South Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, for a man with a gun.

Security said Avila came to the hospital with a friend who needed treatment, according to a police report.

Avila refused to leave after being told of Condell’s visiting restrictions due to COVID-19, according to the report.

Officers arrived and found Avila outside the emergency room entrance.

He was arrested and determined to be in possession of a handgun, police said.

Avila did not have a gun owner’s identification card or a concealed carry permit.

Avila was taken into custody and transported to the Libertyville Police Department where he was processed and charged.

Avila appeared in bond court and a judge set his bail at $30,000.

He was transported to the Lake County jail and then released after posting bond.
