Laredo Medical Center Welcomes Arturo Garza-Gongora, MD, as 2022 Chief of Staff


Arturo G. Garza-Gongora, MD, has been elected chief of staff at Laredo Medical Center. He replaces Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa, who served from January to December 2021.

Dr. Garza-Gongora is a family medicine specialist with 40 years of experience in the medical field.

“Congratulations to Dr. Garza-Gongora on his new appointment to lead our medical staff at Laredo Medical Center,” said CEO Jorge Leal, FACHE. “He has the skills and experience to help us expand the vital partnership between physicians and hospital staff to continue to deliver quality clinical outcomes and exceptional patient care.” Special thanks to Dr. Cigarroa for his service last year, and we enthusiastically welcome Dr. Garza-Gongora.

Garza-Gongora received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1982. Her professional experience spans more than four decades in the medical field, including emergency medicine, correctional medicine and primary care. Garza-Gongora has run his private family practice since 1995 and he currently serves as medical director for various agencies in Laredo and Zapata.

In his role as chief of staff, Garza-Gongora will serve as chairman of the hospital’s medical executive committee; chair all medical staff meetings; advising the hospital administration and the MEC on issues affecting patient care, as well as serving as a spokesperson for medical staff.
