May 5, 2022 – As the healthcare industry continues to grow and reshape, forward-thinking organizations in the field are looking to bolster their leadership ranks. In demand: versatile executives, medical leaders and nurses who can effect change on many levels. Of the four main C-suite roles in a typical hospital, chief nursing officer has always been the hardest to get, according to recruiters.
Orlando, Fla.-based, healthcare-focused research firm Kirby Bates Associates (KBA) was recently selected by Winchester Medical Center (WMC) in Winchester, Va., to lead its search for a new NOC. Jocelyn Clarke and Peggy Loughery lead the mission. CNO directs the division of nursing and supports the practice and advancement of nursing at WMC. As a member of the leadership team, the CNO supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of care, including creating an environment in which collaboration is valued and excellence in care clinics, education and research is promoted and achieved.
According to Kirby Bates, the executive will actively participate in the performance improvement process, ensuring consistency of standards of practice across clinical settings and across the continuum of care. The CNO also ensures that plans are in place to improve patient satisfaction, employee retention and engagement, and patient and staff safety.
WMC is looking for candidates with five years of nursing leadership experience with progressive responsibility in an integrated health system, Kirby Bates said. Applicants must have demonstrated success in developing and implementing patient care delivery systems. Additionally, experience collaborating with medical staff and participating in interprofessional committees and task forces to improve patient outcomes is essential.
A 495-bed regional referral center and Level II trauma center, WMC offers a range of services including neonatal intensive care, advanced heart and brain surgery, a chest pain center, an advanced primary stroke center, a level 4 epilepsy center, a level III NICU and comprehensive physical rehabilitation services. A not-for-profit hospital, WMC is the flagship hospital for Valley Health, a regional system comprised of six hospitals, a heart and vascular center, a cancer center, behavioral health center, long-term care, laboratory, emergency care, doctor’s offices, wound care and wellness centers.
