India has everything to be medical tourism hub: PM Modi

New Delhi [India]Jan 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that India has what it takes to be a hub for medical tourism and he envisions the country to be the destination of choice for quality healthcare and affordable.
In his virtual address after the inauguration of 11 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister said that the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat infrastructure mission aims to address critical gaps in health infrastructure and health research, by especially at the district level.
He said support of more than Rs 3,000 crore will be provided to Tamil Nadu over the next five years which will help establish urban health and welfare centres, district public health laboratories and intensive care blocks across the state.
“In the years to come, I envision India as the go-to destination for quality and affordable healthcare. India has everything it takes to be a hub for medical tourism. based on the skills of our doctors.”
He urged the medical fraternity to look into telemedicine as well.
The 11 medical colleges were inaugurated in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri districts.
“Today the world has taken notice of Indian practices that promote well-being. This includes yoga, Ayurveda and Siddha. We are working to make this popular in a language the world understands,” said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai, via video conference. (ANI)
