Fundraising by Samantha Shipman: Jose Tamayo Medical Assistance

Hi there,

THANK YOU for taking the time to read about my father Jose Tamayo. An Air Force veteran, turned social advocate helping underserved people across Santa Rosa, turned baker, turned pest control technician, and most recently, grandfather. My father is a man of many trades. And now he’s going to have the biggest surgery of his life.

As many of you know my dad was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease in 2021. In April 2022 he had a peritoneal dialysis catheter inserted – His kidneys failed and now require a machine to filter her blood for him. He uses the machine every night and in order for him to be put on the kidney transplant list, he had to undergo several tests. One of them was called a stress test. When he failed, they referred him for a procedure called cardiac catheterization. It gave results that will forever change my father.

On October 5, 2022, my father is due for triple bypass surgery. Three of his four main arteries that supply his heart are 90 or 100% blocked. This means that blood is not flowing properly through his heart muscle. This needs to be taken care of so he can live a healthier life and so he can continue the process of getting on a kidney transplant list. Recovery for surgery is 3-6 months with hospitalization 8-25 days.

My father has always prided himself on helping and caring for others before himself. He would donate his last $20 if it meant someone could put food on his table. He is a loving husband, father and grandfather who needs our support and love. However this may happen, please keep my father in your prayers.

I hope to raise funds for my mother to stay in San Francisco with him. Since the pandemic, visiting restrictions have been in place at the hospital. Also to help pay medical bills and bills while she takes care of my dad. Thank you so much for all the support, texts and phone calls. – Samantha
