Australian Medical Assistance Team arrives in Honiara

Australia deployed AUSMAT to Honiara in response to a request from the Solomon Islands government.

Today, an AUSMAT rapid assessment team landed in Honiara to bolster Solomon Islands’ capacity to respond to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

AUSMAT stands for Australian Medical Assistance Team. It is a multi-disciplinary healthcare team deployed by the Australian Government in response to international disasters.

The eight-person AUSMAT team includes specialists in emergency medicine, infectious disease control, logistics and occupational therapy.

AUSMAT’s primary role will be to provide the Department of Health and Medical Services with clinical advisory support for the COVID-19 emergency response focusing on infection prevention and control, referral care pathways and the distribution of essential medical supplies.
