Are there similar medical travel opportunities to Israel? I know the medicine there is world class, with many of the top doctors having trained in the US.
Hi, there is no truth in your above comments. To begin with in Canada you can wait 6 to 8 months for any type of procedure... 3 to 4 years for weight loss surgery... and this we know first hand from the cases we have had! If you want to come to Israel for any surgery we can do it almost over night no waiting period. I suggest that you take a look at our website for more information.
I find medical care in Israel to be similar to medical care in Canada: Good doctors, but mediocre infrastructure and facilities and much longer wait times (compared with US). However, if a foreigner is paying cash, perhaps the bureaucratic red tape can be circumvented. For example, while on vacation there, my wife needed to see a doctor, and the hotel we stayed at was able to arrange for a doctor to come to the hotel to examine her, within an hour. All Israeli doctors speak English, as all their medical school textbooks are in English.
GregL's comments are accurate. Israel has a single payer system with all the benefits and deficiencies that come with a healthcare system like that. Israel also has a very high number of doctors per capita. One of the results of this is the ability to find a highly qualified physician who will take you on as a private patient. You can find these doctors through hotels, travel agencies, or via other Israeli doctors.
